Administration
- To administer the system, open a web browser and http:// to the IP address of the unit. For example if the IP address is 192.168.1.100 then the URL is http://192.168.1.100 .
- When the general access web page open, click on the Administration icon in the top right of the screen.
- Enter the assigned username and password when prompted. The defaults are: admin and admin.
There are links to several different administration sections from this page. Many of these pages are self-explanitory. It is possible to install online help for the NAS server.
System Settings
General system settings (name, time/date, etc) can be controlled from this section. This section also is used to enable and disable the system security. The default Master Security setting is No. Leaving this default will allow all users access to all volumes.
To restrict access to certain volumes, change the Master Security setting to Yes. It is now possible to create up to 1000 individual users and/or up to 125 groups, using the System Administration utility.
Network Configurations
The NAS server emulates NT, Novell, Macintosh, Unix, FTP and HTTP servers. The system also can be configured for SNMP and DHCP. Specific protocols can be loaded and unloaded in this section.
Storage Management
This page is used to setup and maintain RAID groups. There are five links on this page: Storage Wizard, Devices, RAID Groups, Shares and User Quotas.
The Storage Wizard can be used to guide you through the steps of creating a RAID.
The Devices page lists information about each storage device. The device name is a link to more information about the device.
The RAID Groups page allows for the creation and maintenance of a RAID.
The Share Configuration page creates, deletes and maintains network shares.
User Quotas limit the amount of storage space a user has on a RAID.
Security Management
Users, Groups, and rights to volumes are administered in this section.
Server Backup
If a tape drive had been added to the NAS server system this page is used to configure the use of the tape drive to backup a RAID. If Veritas Backup Exec is used on the network, this page is used to configure the NAS server integration with that system.
Smart Mirror
This section is also used to configure Smart Mirror. It configuration option will allow the entire NAS server to be mirrored to a duplicate NAS server. Two NAS servers must be on the network for this to function.
Server Status
Event logs and system usage statistics can be monitored in this section.
