Virtual CD/DVD Server - CDH

Security

User Level
Restrictions to shares are based on the username/password. A database of usernames/passwords can be stored locally in the Virtual DVD Server, or user authentication can be achieved remotely. This database is used to restrict access to a share to specific users.

  1. From the main Administration page, select Share Manager.
  2. Click on the Set button in the row pertaining to the share.
  3. If using the Local User database, click on the Local User button.
  4. Select the User Account from the left window (Local Groups/Users) and click on the Add button.
  5. The User Account is added to the right window (Privileged Groups/Users).
  6. After all users have been added, click on the Apply button.
  7. If using Remote Authentication, click on the Windows NT or NetWare button.
    1. If a list of user accounts does not appear, click on the "No User" link.
    2. Enter the username and password of a network user with administrative rights. This account is used to log into the NT or Novell server to aquire the list of usernames for remote authentication.
  8. Click on Apply

Share Level
Restrictions to shares are based on a password assigned to the share itself. Potentially, all users can access a share but must provide the correct password.

  1. From the main Administration page, select Share Manager.
  2. Enter the password in the field.
  3. Click on OK.

Liscensing Restrictions
The liscensing of some software applicaitons requitres that a limited number of users be allowed access to network CD/DVD data. Follow these instructions to limit the nuimber of concurrent connections to a share.

  1. From the main Administration page, select Share Manager.
  2. Click on the Set button in the row pertaining to the share.
  3. Click on the Maximum Connections button.
  4. Enter the total number of allowable concurrent connections in the field.
    1. A total of 0 allows unlimited connections.
    2. The theoretical maximum if 65535 connections.
  5. Click on the Apply button.
