Virtual DVD Server - CDH

Users and Groups
Local Users
The Virtual DVD Server has a local database (bindery) that is used to add User and Group accounts locally (directly) to the unit. This database can hold a total of 160 accounts: 128 User accounts and 32 Group accounts. These accounts are used to provide authentication when a user attempts to connect to the unit.

These accounts are used in conjunction with system security.

  1. From the main Administration page, select User Manager.
  2. Click on the Local User button.
  3. Click on the Add button.
  4. Enter the new username and password in the fields.
    1. The new user account may be granted administrative rights to the Virtual DVD Server by placing a check in the "Grant Admin Enable" box. Users granted this right will have a # symbol next to the account name in the Local User list.

To view account information, select the User Account from the Local User list and click on the Property button.

Groups may be added by a similar process.

Remote Authentication
If more than 160 accounts need to be entered, you may wish to enable remote authentication. This process refers to a network server (NT or Novell) for a list of valid user and group accounts. When a user attempts to connect to the Virtual DVD Server, the network server provides authentication.

NT

  1. From the main Administration page, select Network Settings.
  2. Click on the Windows button.
  3. Select the Security Policy level: Share Level or User Level.
  4. Place a check in the "Authenticated by PDC" box.
  5. Click on the Apply button.
  6. A popup window will remind you that these settings will not take effect until the unit is rebooted. Click on OK.
  7. Reboot the Virtual DVD Server.

Novell

  1. From the main Administration page, select Network Settings.
  2. Click on the NetWare button.
  3. Place a check in the "Authenticated by Bindery Server" box.
  4. Enter the bindery server name in the field. NetWare4.11 and higher emulate a bindery server.
    1. During the NetWare server's initial installation, bindery emulation was set by default. Up to 16 contexts may be created.
  5. Click on the Apply button.
  6. A popup window will remind you that these settings will not take effect until the unit is rebooted. Click on OK.
  7. Reboot the Virtual DVD Server.

After the user database is established, either locally or via remote authentication, security can be applied to the shares.
