Installing a legal research program
Premise
Sharing Premise Peer-to-Peer Using the Premise Copy to Hard Drive Function
In this explanation, Master PC refers to the network workstation to which a Virtual CD Tower is physically attached. Slave PC refers to any workstation attempting to connect to the data stored on the Virtual CD Tower from across the network.
Master PC setup
- Install the Adaptec SCSI card, and attach the Virtual CD Tower to the Master PC.
- Open My Computer.
- Open the Properties Window for the hard drive labeled VCD1. (Right-click on the icon, and select Properties; or highlight the icon and select File, Properties).
- Select the Sharing tab.
- Click on the Shared As button, and assign a share name. Under the Access Type heading, select the button next to Full.
- Click on Apply. Click on OK.
- Close the My Computer window.
Setup Premise
- Install a Master copy of Premise on the computer hard drive [C:\]. This copy will be used locally by the Master PC.
- Install a Slave copy of Premise. Install the program to the Virtual CD Tower hard drive. This copy will be used by the nework users.
- Copy CD data discs to the hard drive(s).
- Add the books to the Master copy of Premise
Slave PC Setup
Do these steps on every Slace PC on the network.
- Open Network Neighborhood.
- Open the Master PC computer share icon.
- Map a drive to the VCD1 share folder.
- From within the drive mapping, open the Westpub folder, and the winprs subfolder. Drag-and-Drop the icon for winprs.exe to the desktop to make a shortcut to the Slave copy of Premise. Close all open windows.
- Double click on the Winprs desktop shortcut.
- Select the Install option.
- Select Install Magnetic Book.
- Enter the directory path to the network mapping (ex: V:\), and the subfolders that contain the install file for the copied data (ex: V:\wetspub\library\wpc12345\install.dat). If installing multiple books, place a check in the Multiple Book Install box.
