NAS FileZerver
Upgrading the firmware
The operating system of the NAS server resides in easily upgradable FlashROM. This measn that the operating system isn't on a hard drive, but is on a system chip. New features and capabilities are integrated into the operating system frequently. The most recent firmware version can be downloaded from this site.
Check the current version
To find out what version of the firmware you are currently using in your NAS server follow these steps.
- From the main administration page select Server Status.
- Cick on the System Status link.
- The firmware Version number will be displayed on the page.
Upgrade
Check the downloads page on this site for the most recent version of the firmware. If there is a more recent version of the firmware and you wish to upgrade the system please follow these steps.
Download the firmware upgrade. Unzip the file if necessary. The resulting file will have a *.BIN extension.
- From the main administration page select Storage Management.
- Select System Settings.
- Click on thefirmware Upgrade link.
- Use the Browse button to navigate to the *.BIN file you downloaded.
- When the correct filepath/filename appears in the Firmware File window, click on the Update button.
As the upgrade proceeds, the front panel Status light flashes green and amber. The unit will reboot itself at the end of the upgrade procedure.
Caveat Emptor: Be sure that power to the unit is not disrupted during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the upgrade can result in a very expensive door-stop (i.e., a dead NAS server).
