Installing a legal research program

LawDesk 5x
Local Installation

  1. Insert the LawDesk 5.x program disc in a CD drive bay.
  2. Select the LawDesk 5.x option from the Launch screen.
  3. Follow the screen prompts to copy the program files to the workstation hard drive.
  4. When the installation is compete, click on the Finish button.

LawDesk 5.x program will dynamically search all local CD drive baysas the program starts. A conventional CD Tower, CD Changer, or Virtual CD-ROM software used in conjunction with a stand-alone installation of LawDesk will require no additional modifications of the LawDesk 5.x software.

Network Installation
Server Setup

  1. Insert the LawDesk 5.x program disc in a workstation CD drive bay.
  2. Select the LawDesk 5.x Network option from the Launch screen.
  3. On the Choose Destination screen, click on the Browse button to change the default destination directory (C:\WESTGRP) to a network directory (ex: F:\APPS\LawDesk).
  4. When the installation is completed, click on the Finish button.

When a network installation is performed the GPATH.ini file, located in the WESTLCF subdirectory of the network installation (ex: F:\APPS\LawDesk\WESTLCF) can be used to provide access to discs stored in the Virtual CD Server. After LawDesk 5.x has been installed, navigate to this directory and open the GPATH.ini file. The default file contains no actual paths to network attached data, but instead contains samples of how to use the file. Universal Naming Convention (UNC) or mapped drives may be used to reference network attached CD data.

The sample GPATH.ini file that follows is based on the following facts:
Drive V: is mapped to the Virtual CD Server Model A series Virtual volume.
Drive W: is mapped to the Virtual CD Server Model M series CDROMS volume.
Drive X: is mapped to the Virtual DVD Server ROOT: or SYS: share.
SERVER1\CDDATA1 is a Novell NetWare volume
SERVER2\CDDATA2 is a Microsoft Shared Resource
