Virtual CD Server - Axonix
Microsoft NT Issues
If you are experiencing problems or long delays in locating the default Domain name "CD-Server", it is suggested that you replace this factory default name with a Domain name of a server that is physically close to the Virtual CD Server. There is also an "auto search" mode that can be set in CD Administrator that will reduce the time it takes to locate the Virtual CD Server on either NT or Novell networks.
The time it takes to refresh the names of new titles mounted or TurboCached onto the Virtual CD Server may take up to 15 minutes.
CD discs that have been recorded using Adaptec's EZSCSI CD recording software on an IDE recorder are not compatible. SCSI CD recorders are compatible with EZSCSI.
If you receive a "Too many connections" error when authenticating locally from an NT SP3 workstation, use of the NT Agent or initially attaching with a non-NT Service Pack 3 (SP3) workstation (i.e. Windows95) normally corrects this error. You may also upgrade the Virtual CD Server software to Ornetix CD-Vision v4.10c.
WINS and LMHOSTS
This details how to access a Virtual CD Server when the client workstation and server are not on the same TCP/IP segment. For the client workstation to access the CD-ROM server it must resolve the CD-ROM server's name to an IP address. In a Microsoft Network environment, this can be done in either of the following ways: using WINS (Windows Internet Name Service) or defining the IP address of the Virtual CD Server in the LMHOSTS file
Using WINS
NT Server Component
In order to use the CD-ROM server in WINS environment you need to define it as a static mapping in the WINS Manager.
- Click on Start.
- Select the Programs Menu.
- Select Administrator Tools (common).
- Select WINS Manager.
- Click on Mappings.
- Choose Static Mappings.
- Click on the Add Mapping Button.
- Type in the Virtual CD Server's name and IP address
- Click on the Close button.
Client Workstation Component
On the client workstations, ensure that WINS resolution has been set.
- Right-click on Network Neighborhood.
- Select Properties.
- Choose the TCP/IP tab.
- Select the WINS Configuration tab.
- Select the Enable WINS Resolution option.
- Enter the IP address of the Primary WINS server.
- Click on the OK button.
Using LMHOSTS
The LMHOSTS file is a static file on each workstation, used to resolve computer names to IP addresses. Each workstation must have the Virtual CD Server defined in this file. A sample of the file can be found on every Windows PC at C:\WINDOWS\LMHOSTS.SAM. You can modify this sample file, or create your own using Notepad. Caveat Emptor. Be sure to save the file with no extension, or Windows will be unable to use the file.
An LMHOSTS file uses the command structure: <IP Address> <Server_Name>
A sample of this is: 130.20.7.80 CDSERVER1
On the Virtual CD Server, make sure that the IP Router Address points to the gateway machine.
