CDROM.NLM Help
After the CDROM.NLM has been loaded, the following commands can be used to aid in the administration and maintenance of CD-ROM volumes.

CD HELP
This command will display a help screen for the CDROM.NLM.

CD DEVICE LIST
This command will present a list of CD devices available on the server; if they are active, if CD-ROMs are inserted into the device, and the mount status of the CD-ROM.

**CDROM Device List
No. Act. Device Name Volume Name Mounted
2 Y Device #0 SONY CD-ROM CDU-455 (8100000 NSEPRO Y

Category Description
No. The object number assigned to this specific CD-ROM drive by the Media Manager. When using the No. option in any CDROM.NLM command use this number. Not the number mentioned in the Device Name.
Act. Indicates whether the CD-ROM drive bay is active.
Device Name The name of the device, as reported by the device.
Volume Name The volume of the CD-ROM media, as reported by the CD-ROM media.
Mounted Indicates whether the CD-ROM is mounted as a NetWare volume.

CD VOLUME LIST
This command will present a list of CD volumes available on the server, whether they are active, the CD device the volume is inserted into, and the mount status of the CD-ROM.

CD MOUNT [No.] or [volume name]
CD DISMOUNT [No.] or [volume name]

The command mounts or dismounts a CD-ROM as a NetWare volume. The following switches, or flags, can be used with either the MOUNT or DISMOUNT command.

Switch Description
/dup Eliminates duplicate file names when extended filenames are converted to the 8.3 naming convention
/G=X Sets the default Group Access Rights to the volume. Used in conjunction with the CD GROUP command. (X is the assigned group number.)
/I Ignores errors found with the CD-ROM and forces the volume to mount.
/mac Adds Macintosh Name Space Support. This command is necessary for the DATA and RESOURCE forks to be visible to Mac workstations on the network
/nfs Adds NFS Name Space Support
/R Rebuilds the index file of the volume.
/rx Rebuilds the index file of the volume and extends the space allocated for that file. Useful when mounting CD-ROMs that have unusually large files, or numbers of directories
/W Mounts a CD volume with the R/O attribute turned off. This will allow for the changing of file attributes, IRFs, trustee assignments and adding groups and users to a CD volume.
/X=[name] Excludes a directory tree form the mounted volume.

CD DIR [No.] or [volume name]
This command lists the Root directory of an unmounted CD-ROM.

CD GROUP ([group name] and [group num])
This command will display /assign groups to a group number 0 to 9. For example, CD GROUP LAW 1 will assign the group LAW to CD Group number 1. The results of this assignment can be displayed with the CD GROUP command and would look like this

**CD ROM Access Group List
*Group: 0>EVERYONE (assigned by default)
*Group: 1>LAW

CD PURGE
This command will destroy all CD-ROM index files.

CD RENAME /D=[No.] [new volume name]
This command will change the volume name of a CD-ROM. When remounting the renamed volume the /R switch must be used. For example, CD RENAME /D=2 ALR1 will change CD device number 2 to the new volume name of ALR1

CD CHANGE
This command will change a mounted CD-ROM volume to another CD-ROM. At once time this command would cause the server to hang. If this command is exhibiting any problems, ensure that all drivers are up to date or use the following work around.

  1. CD DISMOUNT
  2. LOAD MONITOR
  3. Select DISK INFORMATION
  4. From the list of System Disk Drive, choose the CD-ROM drive where the CD-ROM media is to be changed.
  5. Select DRIVE OPERATING STATUS
  6. Select DEACTIVATE DRIVE
  7. Change the CD-ROM
  8. Select REMOVABLE DRIVE MOUNT STATUS
  9. Select MOUNT DRIVE
  10. Change back to the System Console
  11. CD MOUNT
